Children’s Spray Playground Needs Improvement

Posted on: June 27th, 2013 by Quik Shade No Comments

A new water-sprayed play area that recently opened in Dallas did not meet the standards of council representative Dwaine Caraway who was disappointed with what he saw.  The brand new playground was dirty with many mud puddles and only one small shade canopy which Caraway said was not enough for kids exposed to the sun all day.

He demanded that the city’s park department improve the draining system of the spray ground and add more pop-up shade canopies so that children can be safe from the sun.  He convinced the program manager to improve the playground area so that it is in better condition for the children who use it.

It is a shame that the park department is not more aware of what the actual conditions of this new playground are after opening.  The lack of shade canopies could be dangerous for kids and a brand new playground should be cleaner and running properly.

It is lucky for the community that this council representative is concerned about the quality of this type of project and takes the time to assess what the conditions are like after its opening.  His concern for the safety and enjoyment of the children is what will make it possible for this playground to be updated as necessary.

Keeping Kids Safe from the Sun

Posted on: June 23rd, 2013 by Quik Shade No Comments

Children love being outside and it can be hard to keep them from running around and playing on a very hot day.  It is okay for kids to play outside but as a parent you need to take precautions so that they do not overheat or suffer from sunburn.  If your children are playing sports or games outdoors then make sure that they are at a place where there are plenty of options for shade.  Not all playgrounds offer adequate shade areas so it might help to bring a portable shade with you wherever your kids are playing.

That way they can take breaks from being in the sun when they get tired and are not exposed to too much sunlight.  Even when kids are playing at the pool or at the water park it is important to get them under the shade canopy as often as possible and continually reapply sunscreen. You should especially apply sunscreen often at the pool or beach because the water can rinse it off and it will not be as effective after swimming.

If you are not already aware of the dangers of sun exposure then you should learn more about why it is so important to keep kids safe from the sun.  The light from the sun contains UV rays which are very damaging to our bodies are linked to illnesses such as skin cancer.  Anytime you get sunburned you are increasing your risk of developing cancer.

It is important to teach children safe habits in the sun so that they are not putting themselves at risk for any illnesses.  Sunscreen, protective clothing and shade tops are all solutions that you should invest in to keep your children safe so that they can still have fun playing outdoors with their friends. Bethlehem’s Eastern Gateway

Posted on: June 20th, 2013 by Quik Shade No Comments

In the area known as Lehigh Valley, the RBA group has some improvement ideas to attract more visitors to the Bethlehem Greenway and the city skateplaza.   They hope to add a gathering area around the skateplaza that would include a concession stand, restrooms and a seating spot covered by shade canopies.  The goal is to attract more people to spend time outdoors at the greenway.  They will even add a shade canopy with a corrugated metal overhang where a large group of people can relax outside.  The plans will include pedestrian lights and trees to create a friendlier environment for visitors at the skateplaza.

This district could really benefit from adding a few improvements that would make it more enjoyable to spend time outside.  As long as there are pop-up shade areas where people can sit and eat or just enjoy the weather it will go a long way to create a more pleasant environment.  It may be only a small change but can probably do plenty to make the plaza more inviting for people walking around.  With some places to buy food and dine outside people will be interested in staying for the afternoon and spending time with their families.

Patio Dining for Summer Fun in Downtown Boise

Posted on: June 15th, 2013 by Quik Shade No Comments

As summer begins, people are looking for ways to stay outside to enjoy the weather.  In downtown Boise, 8th street offers plenty of restaurants for patio dining with good food and comfortable shade canopies. This area is a great place to sample different types of food by grabbing a quick appetizer and moving on to the next closest patio adventure.

Outdoor tables and pop-up shade give you a chance to take in the summer sights and warm weather while enjoying delicious food with friends.  Each restaurant along the street offers happy hour deals for drinks and appetizers.

Patio dining and restaurant “hopping” sound like relaxing ways to spend a summer afternoon.  You can walk from place to place and spend as much time outdoors as you like with the portable shade umbrellas at every table.  It is becoming a more popular way to dine instead of being stuck inside at a crowded restaurant.

People need the freedom of being outside so that they have their own space and can take in the summer weather as they enjoy food and drink.  With cheap and smaller portions you do not have to commit to one bar or restaurant but can see what they all have to offer.

Camping Supplies and Survival

Posted on: June 12th, 2013 by Quik Shade No Comments

Camping Supplies And SurvivalMost people feel completely safe when they go camping and it is a popular activity in national parks and other recreational areas.  You never know what can happen though when you are out in the wilderness and it is always a good idea to be prepared.  It helps to have a checklist of camping supplies and research some of the dangers specific to the area where you are camping.  Every camping site has different kind of wildlife that you can encounter and a different environment with its own risks.

You will need to bring basic supplies like a tent and canopy accessories and be conscious of how to avoid any incidents the best that you can.  Supplies that give you shelter like a portable canopy will keep you safe from the sun or rain and it is always important to bring enough food and water for everyone in your party.  Bring clothing that is appropriate to the climate of the area you are camping and pack enough for the duration of the trip.

No matter where you plan on camping you will always need to have tools for survival in case anything happens.  It is a good idea to always bring a basic first aid kit and maybe something for snake bites or other dangers in the area.  A swiss army knife comes in handy because it has a variety of different tools that can be useful in a lot of situations from simple tasks to getting out of a bad spot in the wilderness.

Before you leave on your trip make sure to run through your checklist and make sure you didn’t miss anything.  Then when you reach your campsite and set up your tent and shade canopy you can look through it again to know that you have everything and nothing important was left behind. A Day At The Beach With Your Family

Posted on: June 8th, 2013 by Quik Shade No Comments

If you are lucky enough to live near the ocean or are taking a vacation by the coast then with a little planning you can have a perfect beach day.  Sometimes people forget how many fun activities you can do by the beach.  You don’t just have to lie on a towel and nap under instant canopies to enjoy the ocean.

If you like being in the water then you can bring a swimsuit and play in the waves with your kids.  It can be a lot of fun to try boogie boarding or surfing if you have a wetsuit and a board.  If you have never tried surfing before you can take a lesson and stand up for the first time with an instructor helping you.   Boogie boarding is a little easier and you can probably figure out how to do it on your own.

For those who are less adventurous you can read a book underneath your shade canopy or help your kids build sandcastles on the shore. It is a good idea to bring enough beach supplies so you will feel comfortable and prepared when you are taking a break from different activities.

Most beaches have plenty of different options for renting bikes or skates if you want to do something active that everyone can do together.  Make sure to be safe and wear helmets especially if you have young children that want to try it too.  Riding a bike or skating can be a good activity when the sun is going down and it is too cold to swim.  You won’t need as much protection from your pop-up canopy in the evening so you are free to roam around the bike paths and explore.  There are lots of fun ways to enjoy the beach and it has a lot to offer for excitement or relaxation. Group Plans to Develop Baton Rouge Riverfront

Posted on: June 4th, 2013 by Quik Shade No Comments

A local group in Louisiana known as the Downtown Development District asked for approval on a proposal that would make some much needed improvements to the famous riverfront in Baton Rouge.  They hoped to get approval on creating extended bike paths as well as a shade canopy for part of the city dock that would be illuminated with LED lights.  These improvements would be done with the goal of improving tourism to bring in more money to the area.  The changes would be paid for through a hotel-motel tax that is refunded back to the city-parish.

This area is an important part of the city and any updates that can be made would help keep it relevant to people visiting Louisiana.  The canopy covering would be a great way to get people to spend more time around the dock because shade canopies make people more comfortable to be out in the sun for a while.  Bike paths would allow tourists to do something active and take in the sights while they are visiting the riverfront.  Lights on the docks would be an interesting sight at night and give a new look tha would appeal to tourists in this unique city.

Tips for Enjoying a Summer Music Festival

Posted on: June 1st, 2013 by Quik Shade No Comments

The summer months are often the time when many exciting festivals take place all over the country.  For music lovers, it can be a time to see many of their favorite musicians all in one place and be exposed to new bands as well.

Anyone who likes going to these festivals knows how much stress they can involve if you are not prepared to deal with the heat and the crowds and the experience of camping out in a packed venue.  There are a few things you can think about before you leave for a music festival to make it a more comfortable and enjoyable experience.

One of the biggest problems is often the heat and sun at these events.  The best thing to do is bring plenty of water and probably a quick canopy to stay safe from the sun.  You may never know if there will be enough shade to go around at a crowded venue so you should always be prepared with your own portable shade to prevent sunburn and overheating.  You should also have lots of sunblock for everyone in your party and light clothing that covers up your skin.

If you do plan on camping out for a weekend long festival then you will of course need to be mindful of your camping supplies.  It helps to make a checklist and go through everything before you leave.  Food can be very expensive at these types of festivals so bringing your own snacks will help save you money and keep you satisfied throughout the day.

You can set up a tent or a canopy shade to cover you if you are sleeping outside.  Your friends will be grateful for some fold out chairs at the camp site after a long day of standing.  In spite of the heat and crowds, music festivals are a great experience that music lovers enjoy as long as they are ready and prepared.
