A new water-sprayed play area that recently opened in Dallas did not meet the standards of council representative Dwaine Caraway who was disappointed with what he saw. The brand new playground was dirty with many mud puddles and only one small shade canopy which Caraway said was not enough for kids exposed to the sun all day.
He demanded that the city’s park department improve the draining system of the spray ground and add more pop-up shade canopies so that children can be safe from the sun. He convinced the program manager to improve the playground area so that it is in better condition for the children who use it.
It is a shame that the park department is not more aware of what the actual conditions of this new playground are after opening. The lack of shade canopies could be dangerous for kids and a brand new playground should be cleaner and running properly.
It is lucky for the community that this council representative is concerned about the quality of this type of project and takes the time to assess what the conditions are like after its opening. His concern for the safety and enjoyment of the children is what will make it possible for this playground to be updated as necessary.
